The French Market Experience

→ Begin at our atelier, a modern, comfortable kitchen and reception space in a historic 17th-century building. Meet your chef-guide, take a moment to settle in, then head out on a 10-minute walk through the Saint-Michel neighborhood, passing the Saint-Michel Cathedral on the way to the market.

→ Explore the lively Marché des Capucins with your chef-guide, learning how French markets work — from market etiquette and pricing to choosing quality produce and understanding country of origin. Discover the boucherie (butcher) and its different meat cuts, as well as the traiteur (prepared foods to take home) and what French shoppers actually buy.

→ Examples of shops you might visit beyond the market include a Turkish grocery and a Tunisian or Moroccan pastry shop, reflecting the diverse food culture of the Saint-Michel neighborhood.

→ Return to the atelier for a relaxed lunch built around what you've found at the market. Depending on the day, this might include local charcuterie and ham, fresh market bread, regional cheeses, seasonal fruit and vegetables (crudités), and regional or Tunisian and Moroccan pastry specialties. Enjoy it all with a guided tasting of three Bordeaux wines.

What Makes This Experience Unique

Learn to shop like a local
Discover the unwritten rules of French markets — how to order, when to touch or not touch produce, how to select the best quality, find fair prices and good vendors, and understand country of origin and organic vs. conventional produce.

More than the market
Explore the Capucins and Saint-Michel neighborhood, including a Turkish grocery and a Tunisian or Moroccan pastry shop, for a broader look at the foods and cultures that shape this part of Bordeaux.

A market-sourced lunch
Your lunch is built around what you find that morning — perhaps fresh market bread, regional cheeses, local charcuterie and ham, seasonal vegetables and fruit, and regional or North African pastries.

Relaxed atelier experience
Return to our private atelier in the heart of Bordeaux for a convivial lunch and three Bordeaux wines. No cooking required.
